New Lens
New Lens
Scope and Insight
In order to attain a new consciousness toward religion, spirituality, human’s relationships and interaction with nature; this research traces both the rise and effects of the Roman influences and later Christianity’s patriarchal consciousness on the religious and social consciousness of the Irish. The research examines the gender roles and status of women in the Celtic culture prior to and after the adoption of Catholicism. A critical feminist perspective, is utilized to examine the effects of the patriarchal framework in the shaping and altering of women’s roles within the personal, social, and religious spheres of the Celtic culture.
Who is the Goddess and Where Does She Get Us?
“Where does a goddess get us? Investigating the history of goddess brings us to an interesting argument about the nature of religious authority and the limits of historical research. Goddess feminism, by ‘reaching it behind the Biblical monotheistic worldview to affirm bodily and social processes [and to promote] natural and cultural diversity,’ creates a hope for new possibilities” (Weaver, 1998, p.64)
