What does looking back in history offer today's society?

All nations are facing the threats of ecological disaster, nuclear warfare and the stratification of humans, whether by gender, religion, nationality, or race. Consequently, they are all in search of a solution to resolve these ever present threats to human existence. Amidst the rise of a new global age, one in which the current systems built within the framework of patriarchy are no longer functioning, humankind is attempting to look back at history in an effort to imagine a world before a patriarchal order ruled the systematic functions of nations.
The film, The Gods of our Fathers, explores the evolution of patriarchy, stating,
“There is nothing innate in patriarchy and militarism. We                             can change our culture.”

Although, it claims that patriarchy was adopted as one effective way of organizing mass societies, it recognizes that the world has changed, especially since the rise of globalization, and that it is time to find alternatives to hierarchies, patriarchy, and militarization. The dismantling of patriarchy resides in the acknowledgment that after 5,000 years of patriarchy, it is not just in our institutions it is in our heads; but not our genes or nature (Henderson, 1994).
